Trusted Minds Therapy
Couples counselling that creates positive change

Couples Therapy
Rebuilding connection and trust
There may be no major rupture, but a growing sense of disconnection, less communication, less intimacy, feeling more like co-parents or housemates than partners.
I help couples improve their relationship using Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) a therapeutic approach that helps couples improve their emotional connection and communication.
It focuses on identifying and addressing the underlying emotional needs that drive disconnection.
Therapy helps you reconnect with each other and rediscover what first brought you together.
Couples learn to express their feelings more openly, build trust, and develop healthier ways of interacting, to foster greater intimacy, empathy, and support within the relationship.
Some benefits include:
- Reconnect emotionally and physically
- Understand what's created the distance between you
- Rebuild intimacy and closeness
- Rediscover shared values and goals
- Move from "surviving" to actively choosing each other

What can couples counselling help me with?
Relationships go through periods of difficulty, conflict, disconnection, infidelity, or simply feeling like you and your partner are speaking different languages. Couples therapy offers a dedicated space to slow down, be heard, and work through what's getting in the way.
As your couples therapist, I don't take sides. I work with both of you to understand the patterns underneath the conflict often rooted in attachment, past experience, or unmet needs and help you build the tools to communicate, rebuild trust, and reconnect.
What couples therapy can help with
- Communication breakdown and recurring conflict
- Infidelity and rebuilding trust
- Emotional or physical disconnection
- Life transitions affecting the relationship (parenting, career change, bereavement)
- Attachment patterns and how they show up between you
- Setting healthy boundaries as a couple
What's your approach to couples work?
I draw on an integrative approach, using Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) and attachment theory to help you understand not just what you argue about, but why, and how to respond differently.
Do we both need to want therapy for it to work?
It helps if both partners are willing to engage, even if one of you is more hesitant at first. Feeling unsure is normal, we can talk about that in our first session.
How many sessions will we need?
This varies by couple, but many clients start to see meaningful shifts within a few sessions. We will review your progress together as we go.
How can I get started?
The first step is a free initial phone call, so we can discuss what's bringing you to therapy and explore whether I'm the right fit for you both.

Testimonials
Couples Client: Relationship challenges
“From our very first session, Catherine proved to be a warm, reliable, and insightful guide for me and my partner as we navigated relationship challenges. Having tried several counsellors before, Catherine’s approach stood out as the most helpful by far. I was seeking someone who not only listened, but also brought psychological insight and new perspectives—and Catherine delivered exactly that.
She helped me uncover the roots of behavioural patterns, linking them to attachment and trauma in ways I’d never considered. Her thoughtful questions, calm presence, and practical support helped me recognise toxic dynamics, build boundaries, and better understand myself without shame.
Catherine was pivotal in my recovery and personal growth. Her kindness, pragmatism, and deep knowledge made a lasting impact—and I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone facing relationship, family, or emotional challenges.”
Couples Client: Relationship infidelity
"The work we have done with you has been truly transformational. We are incredibly grateful for your insight, time, and patience throughout our journey. While we hope we won't need to restart our couple's sessions, we would not hesitate to reach out again if we do."
Individual Client: Polyamorous relationship challenges
"I had a challenging experience with counseling in the past, which left me feeling hesitant and worried about being judged. However, Catherine immediately made me feel at ease. She gently guided me through untangling the complex thoughts and emotions I brought into our sessions. Catherine is an exceptional listener, always offering thoughtful prompts when I was unsure of how to proceed. After each session, I walked away with a renewed sense of clarity, additional insights to reflect on, and often a fresh perspective on issues I had struggled to resolve on my own. Her expertise and knowledge are evident, and she provided me with practical strategies for managing an unbalanced relationship. Thanks to her support, I gained the confidence to set healthy boundaries, which has led to immediate positive changes in my life. Most importantly, I now have a deeper understanding of myself and how I form connections with others. I cannot recommend Catherine highly enough – she has truly helped me move forward"
Couples client: Identity, boundaries, AuDHD
"I highly recommend Catherine; she is a compassionate and skilled counsellor who combines her extensive training with a warm, empathetic approach. She is deeply committed to helping her clients find clarity and resilience in their journey."
Couples Client: Rebuilding communication and trust LGBTQ+
"This is the second occasion in my lifetime that I have sought the support of a professional counsellor. Right from the start I felt comfortable speaking with Catherine and sharing some very difficult and personal experiences. On starting counselling, I felt unheard, unappreciated and ready to walk from my married life - unable to effectively communicate and see a clear path forward. As the sessions progressed, recognising and understanding triggers, behaviour patterns and communication styles and just being able to talk freely about stuff, helped me get a handle on how to effectively progress. I needed to be reminded that we can only change our own behaviour and how we react in given situations and being reminded of this, given that we are all different, helped me and impacted how I dealt with certain situations. I felt safe to share and supported. I would recommend Catherine as a counsellor, I would say she has been a great help to me, is very knowledgeable and that I always felt comfortable talking to her. I have aways recommended counselling, to be able to share in a non-judgemental, professional environment what maybe troubling is invaluable and our mental health is as important as that of our physical well-being."
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
